If the unthinkable happens and you accidentally drop your phone in the toilet, your dog's water bowl, or a sink, you are going to need to act quickly in order to make sure that your phone isn't permanently ruined. Here are some steps that you can follow in order to try to get the moisture out of your phone within a short enough period of time.

1. Use Rice

The tried and true method of sucking moisture out of a phone is to use rice. Take your phone and remove any case that you might have on it. If your phone is still turned on, turn it off. If your phone was plugged in, unplug it and then turn it off so that you don't accidentally fry the battery. Remove the back of the phone and remove the battery. Place the battery and the phone body into a small resealable bag. Fill that bag with uncooked white rice so that the phone and battery are totally covered. Let the bag sit for several days. Remove the rice, put the battery back into the phone, and try to turn the phone on. If the phone turns on and is working, you're good to go. If not, take comfort in the fact that you did all that you could to get the water out of your phone.

2. Deal with Soda

Soda or alcohol in your phone has its own particular problems. The main problem is that the liquid won't just evaporate and leave no trace. It is going to be filled with sugar leavings. Immediately turn off and unplug your phone. Remove the battery and SD cards. Take the phone and place it into a cup of distilled water in order to get rid of the dried sugar. Leave the phone in the water for an hour or two. While you wait, prepare the bag of rice from above. Take the phone out of the water and place it into the bag of rice so that it is fully submerged. Leave the phone in the rice for several days. This will drain all of the water that was used to get rid of the sticky soda out of the phone. Finally, after multiple days, remove the phone and replace the battery. Try to turn the phone on. Hopefully, you will have been able to get all of the sugar and liquid out before the inside of your phone became corroded.
