If your computer is not working, you may be able to fix it yourself. There are times, however, that you should not fix it but instead leave it up to a professional. If you try to do it on your own, you will likely cause even further problems which would result in more money. Below is some information about this so you will know what to do if you have problems.

2 Problems You Can Fix Yourself

Slow Computer When Opening Programs

If it is taking forever to open programs on your computer, there are several things you can do to speed it up again. First, download a spyware protection software to scan your computer. If you have a lot of spyware, it can slow things down. There are many free applications that work as well as the paid ones.

First update the software and run a full scan. If it finds any spyware, it will list them when the scan is finished. There will be an option to remove the spyware. The software may prompt you to restart. If so, you should do this immediately to completely remove the spyware from your computer.

For the future, run a spyware scan once a week to keep spyware off your computer.

Cannot Connect to the Internet

If you no longer have an Internet connection, you can try power cycling your modem/router. To do this, remove the power cord from the back of your modem and/or router and then shut your computer down. Let everything stay off for a few minutes and then plug the router and/or modem back in. Wait for the lights to appear on them. Once this happens, power up your computer and see if you can connect to the Internet. In many cases, this will fix this problem.

Problems You Should Not Fix

Hear Noises

If you hear a screeching or grinding noise while you are on your computer, this means the hard drive is at the end of its life. It will fail at any second, so make sure you hurry up and back up your files. Unless you are a technician, you should not attempt to replace the hard drive on your own. A computer services company can likely get data off the hard drive before it completely crashes and then replace the hard drive for you.

Won't Boot Up

If your computer will not turn on at all and you hear no kind of beeping sounds, this is a sign that your CPU (central processing unit) is failing. Another sign you have this problem is your computer will start but then it will immediately shut down. The CPU is connected to the motherboard and very difficult to replace without causing other damage.

Ask the computer services company about other things you should not repair on your own. Contact a company like Contec Direct to learn more.
